Fairy tales are archetypal stories that connect us to one another and help us understand the psychological tasks and problems of being human—the hero seeking his fortune, the princess seeking her prince, orphaned children trying to get home. Fairy tale themes translate into today’s language as finding our place in the world, our need for love and relationship and our need to find a nurturing home in our land. These themes resonate in the world and within each of us.
In these dark and difficult times, we are all trying to find a new ground of being. As Jungian analyst and close colleague of CG Jung, Marie-Louise von Franz wrote, “An archetypal experience is the only healing factor in therapy…the simplest expression of collective unconscious psychic processes.” Coming into harmony with conscious and unconscious processes supports growth and self-awareness for our clients and ourselves.

Objectives
Upon completion of these workshops, participants will be able to:
- Examine Jung’s idea of individuation through story as each story illustrates a different aspect of the individuation process.
- Demonstrate through the use of fairy tales, how story can help us and our clients connect to a deeper understanding of our tasks as human beings.
- Gain an understanding of the ways in which bibliotherapeutic uses of myth and story can facilitate client self-insight and contribute to desired clinical outcomes.
