Hermes: The Spirit of the Times/The Spirit of the Depths
The Greeks thought of Hermes as the Messenger of the Gods. In this time of anxiety, politics, pandemic, and false news, stories of Hermes may give us a way to think about what is going on inside of us in the midst of what is going on around us.

The Transcendent Function: Techniques, Practical Uses, Risks
I will discuss dream experience and interpretation, active imagination, and intuition. How did these play a role in Jung’s life and work? How is the ‘unconscious’ critical for some people in the journey of life or in a therapeutic context?
How do you relate to unconsciousness, unconscious processes, or the unconscious psyche? Have experiences of the unconscious been meaningful to you, and how have you dealt with them? Feel free to bring examples of-or desires for-dreams, fantasies, insights, or intuitions. Does society make room for the unconscious psyche, or has it been barred and torn away from relevance?
Evan Haarbauer is an artist, writer and researcher. Although previously familiar with Jung, it was the publishing of the Red Book (2009) that drew him deeply into Jung’s life and works.
Relevant Reading Material by Jung
Man and his Symbols (For general public to understand Jungian psychology)
The Transcendent Function, in CW, vol. 8
The Black Books and The Red Book (Jung’s journals of his ‘confrontation with the unconscious’; Jung’s working with the journals for his integration and for readers; includes paintings and a schema for individuation)
Practical Use of Dream Analysis, CW, vol.16
Lament of the Dead: Psychology After Jung’s Red Book (Interview with James Hillman and Sonu Shamdasani)
